Celebrate the great outdoors, jettison your E-waste and learn about ways to help the environment and fellow residents of Planet Earth at Utah State University’s Earth Day observance Thursday, April 19.
Got old, obsolete, broken-down computers, printers and other high tech gadgets cluttering your world? Drop them off at the USU Recycling Center’s E-Waste Collection event from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the parking area at 850 E. 700 North. The collection area is east of the 700 North university parking terrace and across the street from the HPER building.
From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. USU’s Environmental Coalition of Students hosts a variety of entertainment and exhibits on the Taggart Student Center patio. Enjoy an African dance performance and free craft activities including pot making, face painting and seed planting. Visit informational exhibits about Utah Conservation Corps, Aggie Blue Bikes, Aggie Recyclers, Engineers Without Borders and more. View one of the new compressed natural gas Aggie shuttles, enjoy live music and cool off with a snow cone.
From 1-2 p.m. attend a slide presentation on Al Gore’s film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” by USU alum Rob Davies in HPER building room 114. Davies, who earned a doctorate in physics, was personally trained by Gore to deliver presentations on the Oscar-winning documentary. His presentation is followed by a panel discussion on sustainability. The gathering is free and open to all.
With inspiration from the day’s activities, join other Aggie volunteers for a campus clean-up day at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21 on the quad.
Last month, Utah State University formally announced its commitment to reduce, and ultimately neutralize, greenhouse gas emissions on its campus. President Stan Albrecht joined presidents and chancellors throughout the United States in a stand to address global warming by becoming a charter signatory to the American College & University Presidents Climate Commitment, the first university president in Utah to do so.
