Gail Bingham Featured in Space.Com
The work of Gail Bingham, a scientist at Utah State's Space Dynamics Laboratory, was recently featured at Space.com in an article by Space News copy writer Brad Amburn. That piece, "Space Station Harvest Relieves Crew's Minds, Appetites," appeared July 19.
The piece is a highlight of Bingham's ongoing study of vegetation growth in space. Included is an overview of the most recent growth chamber, Lada, launched in September 2002 aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket to the international space station.
"The key to being able to repeatedly grow plants in space is to know how to develop the hardware so the plants think they are in an environment where they originally developed," Bingham said in the Space.com piece.
The Lada growth chamber is seen aboard the international space station.
