Flutes and Voices Combine at Utah State University in Concert
The Utah State University Women’s Choir and Flute Choir will present “Flutes and Voices” at 7:30 p.m. in the USU Performance Hall Dec. 5.
The combined flute choirs will begin the program with Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture arranged by Nancy Nourse to feature piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute.
The Studio Flute Choir will perform “Miniature Overture,” “Chinese Dance” and “Dance of the Mirlitons” from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite.
“The USU Flute Choir will also play a beautiful arrangement of the Spanish Carol A La Nanita Nana with harpist Carly Ewell,” said Leslie Timmons, USU flute choir director. “Other seasonal favorites will be heard in the foyer of the Performance Hall as the audience is arriving.”
“The USU Women’s Choir adds a vocal touch to this program with music by American composers, Z. Randall Stroope, John Leavitt, Eric Whitacre and Utah’s own Bernell Hales and Mack Wilberg,” said Michael Huff, director of the USU Women’s Choir. “Also on the program is the hauntingly beautiful Ave Maria by English composer Gustav Holst.”
Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors and youth, $5 for USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with ID. Tickets can be purchased in person at the CCA Box Office located in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center, online through the Caine College of the Arts’ website or by calling 435-797-8022.
