Five Aggies Post Career-Best Marks on Final Day of New Mexico Classic

Utah State [University] men and women's track and field teams placed 11 athletes in the top five on the second day of the New Mexico Classic held at Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday [Feb. 5, 2011]. Overall, USU had 21 top-five placers in the two-day meet.

Leading the way for the Aggie men was senior James Allred who took second in the 800m with a career-best and Western Athletic Conference season-best time of 1:50.06, altitude adjusted from 1:50.68. Allred finished just seconds before senior Jason Holt at 1:51.61, altitude adjusted from 1:52.24. Fellow senior Eric Larson also posted a career-best and WAC season-best time in the mile with a 4:11.72, altitude adjusted from 4:17.33.

Also placing in the top five for the Utah State men was freshman Tanner Huntin third-place with his career-best time in the 400m (48.34). Joining Hunt in third place for their respective events were junior Philip Noble in the unseeded pole vault 15-01.00 (4.60m) and the 4x400-meter relay team (3:16.58) which consisted of Hunt and fellow freshman Parker Bluth, along with sophomore Kendale Hamlett and senior Armahd Lewis.

Finishing in the top five for the Aggie women was freshman Kylie Hirschi claiming second-place in the 800m with a career-best time of 2:14.68, altitude adjusted from 2:15.44. Also taking second was the women's 4x400-meter relay team (3:47.08) made up of Hirschi, sophomore Aubrie Haymore, junior Katelyn Heiner and senior Heidi Peterson. Heiner and Peterson also finished fifth in the 400m (55.93) and 60m hurdles (8.91), respectively. Rounding out the top five for the USU women was junior Ruth Hilton crossing the finish line third in the mile (5:07.45).

The fifth Aggie with a career-best Saturday was junior John Johnson with a 16-07.25 (5.06m) height in the seeded pole vault, finishing seventh.

Utah State will conclude its indoor regular season at two different meets. Some Aggies will compete at the Washington Open in Seattle, Wash., with the other athletes traveling to Boise, Idaho, for the Boise State Open. Both meets will to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-12. Boise State will also host the 2011 WAC Indoor Championships Feb. 23-26 at Jacksons Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho.
