Film Lineup Announced for this Year's 3rd Annual Logan Film Festival

The third annual Logan Film Festival, taking place Sept. 25-27, is a celebration of independent films focusing on artistic expression and alternative views instead of big Hollywood names and budgets.

The selected films were submitted from around the world, and out of the 43 films to be screened, seven of them were made locally in Cache Valley, 12 in Utah, 13 in the United States and 11 internationally. The films have various run times, and are both narrative and documentary.

The festival team is especially excited to screen “20,000 Days on Earth.” The documentary feature was premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and received two awards for editing and directing. In regards to the film, the Sundance jury said: “We award this film for being arguably the most exciting film in competition… This is documentary storytelling at its most visionary and mindblowing.”

“20,000 Days on Earth” will play Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Ellen Eccles Theater, 43 South Main St. in Logan.

The festival team is also pleased to be screening an AFI thesis film that was directed by Cache Valley native Kevin Lacy. His film, “Young Americans,” has won seven awards at various film festivals and took 2nd place at the College Emmy Awards in the drama category.

The Logan Film Festival not only screens films, but has filmmaker panels, Q&A, and awards ceremony. The festival acts as a gathering of real life independent film makers that travel in from around the country. It's as educational and inspiring as it is entertaining.

USU Film, a club at Utah State University, has been involved with a variety of elements in the Logan Film Festival. USU theatre arts faculty member Richie Call is a panel member for one of the festival’s panels.

There are a variety of ticket packages for the festival. USU students can buy a $5 pass for all films during the weekend. Tickets for local residents are $20 for the full weekend pass or $45 for non-local residents. Single films can be seen for $8.
