'Evidence and Artifact' Exhibition Opens Nov 16 at USU

Utah State University’s Department of Art in the Caine School of the Arts presents “Evidence and Artifact,” an exhibit featuring the work of photographer Christopher Gauthier and printmaker Kathy Puzey. The exhibition is located in the Studio 102 Gallery in Chase Fine Arts Visual 102. It opens Nov. 16 and continues through Dec 11.

 

An opening reception with the artists is Monday, Nov. 16, from 5-7 p.m. at the gallery.

 

“These photographs were made in the midst of ice, fog and inversion, a natural and man-made regional weather phenomenon in which beauty and toxicity combine,” said Gauthier. “With my photographs and Kathy’s prints, this combination of styles creates a stunning exhibit.”

 

Puzey’s work stems from a long and active relationship with her surroundings. She believes the essential relationship goes beyond that of mere spectator.

 

The exhibition is part of Crossing Boundaries, a year-long project promoting unity and diversity across community. Crossing Boundaries, hosted by the Caine School of the Arts and the College of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, is made possible with the support of the Obert C. and Grace Tanner Foundation, the Utah Arts Council and the Utah Humanities Council.

 

The Studio 102 Gallery is located in the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU campus. Gallery Hours are from noon to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays.

 

The artists will also host an informal lecture and question-and-answer session in the Studio 102 Gallery at noon, Nov. 18. Professors Puzey and Gauthier will discuss their work, their artistic influences and the technical aspects of their craft.
