English Conversation Social Open to All

After requests from non-native speakers for a venue to practice their spoken English, Utah State University Writing Center has stepped up to fill this void.

Under the direction of graduate student Emily Gilliland, the English Conversation Social was initiated in fall of 2005. Originally meeting in the Writing Center, these socials were such an immediate success, they needed to move to a larger meeting place after the first social.

Now meeting in R.B. West 214 on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 p.m., the social continues to grow and flourish.

Each week, native and non-native speakers come together for the sole purpose of giving international students an opportunity to interact with American students one-on-one is a casual setting to practice and improve their English conversation skills, learn about other cultures and make new friends. This is not a class, but students learning from students through the application of spoken English.
