Emilie Holmes — President For A Day

Emilie Holmes was a natural pick to become President-for-a-Day with President

Kermit L. Hall at Utah State University. As a senior studying print journalism and political science, she enjoys chasing an inside story and learning about governmental institutions. 

 

The Logan native is the first of the semester to have an inside look at what President Hall is involved with and how the university operates on a day-to-day basis.

 

President Holmes said that it is important for students to get an inside view of what goes on in the president's office and at the university. Her experience, and what she learned, will stay with her for a long time, she said.

 

During her tenure as president her activities included meetings, meetings and more meetings, which lasted most of the day. She joined President Hall as he met with ASUSU President Les Essig, completing a presidential meeting in triplicate. She concluded her time as president with a dinner at the University Residence.

 

Holmes has been actively involved with the Utah Statesman as a news reporter and features editor. This year she is editor in chief. Her current assignment follows a summer of writing for the business page of the Standard –Examiner as an intern, where she also covered the police beat once a week.   

 

Holmes will graduate spring 2005 with a degree in print journalism and a minor in political science. 

 

“I can list many valuable experiences I have had at Utah State University and the chance to be with President Hall for a day was definitely one of them," she said. “This was an opportunity that I was really looking forward to and I am glad I was able to do it.”
