Eight File for ASUSU Presidency

February 13, 2007 | Fifty-two students will participate in the 2007 ASUSU elections, including eight candidates for president.

 

The candidates, in alphabetical order, are:

 

 

Zachary Ames
Ames is a junior majoring in sociology and economics. He said he wants to seek more research funding for Utah State and improve the universityâ??s overall academics to better prepare students for careers. He said he also wants to provide more extra-curricular and leadership opportunities for students.

 

Ashment is a senior majoring in political science and economics. He said he wants to research the possibilities of beginning a USU nursing program. He also said he wants to increase attendance at sporting events and focus on conservation issues such as recycling.

 

Brinton is a junior majoring in international business. He said he wants to keep the student body more informed of the activities and opportunities available on campus. He said he would also like to make campus more "student-friendly" by placing maps, making buildings easier to identify and placing information screens outside the registration and financial aid offices to answer frequently-asked student questions.

 

 

McChesney is a senior majoring in law and constitutional studies. He said he would like to increase student opportunities for financial aid and scholarships. He is currently HASS senator and said he believes academics should come first.

 

Meacham is a senior majoring in speech communications. She said she wants to focus on student needs, including simplifying registration, advising and transferring to USU. She said she wants to make the student center more student-oriented and less business-oriented. She also wants to start a program of monthly forums allowing students to interact with and question university administrators directly.

 

Nielson is a senior majoring in international studies and political science. He said he wants to boost enrollment at Utah State by keeping the costs of attending down. He said he also wants to increase student involvement in athletic events by adding club sports.

 

Seamons is a junior majoring in Math. He said he would like to help students deal with the â??red tapeâ?? involved in navigating the college experience. He said he would like to make it easier for students to learn how to register, graduate, and deal with the similar issues.
