Edith Bowen Laboratory School to House Gerald and Joy Hill Math, Science and Technology Center

The College of Education and Human Services and the Edith Bowen Laboratory School recently honored Joy and Gerald Hill and their family during the announcement of the new Gerald and Joy Hill Math, Science and Technology Center at the laboratory school. Principal Kaye Rhees told the family and other friends of the college and school that the center would provide opportunities for hundreds and hundreds of children to conduct innovative science experiments at the new facility.

 

The gift from Joy and Gerald Hill, amounting to approximately $290,000, will support the center and a scholarship in their names in USU's department of elementary education. Gerald taught school for 33 years, including a student-teaching experience at the Edith Bowen Laboratory School. Joy graduated from Edith Bowen when it was housed at the Whittier Center. The couple met while Gerald was attending school at USU.

 

Gerald Hill said the Hill family is proud to help others receive an education, because education has always been so important in all of their lives. Everyone — rich or poor — must always realize that the examples their lives provide for children can make lasting impressions on future generations whether they think anyone is watching or not.

 

Gerald taught 4th grade in Spanish Fork schools for more than 30 years and is now a rancher with his son on their family homestead in Spanish Fork.
