Eco-Friendly Coop Poop

Phosphorus is an essential nutrient for healthy chickens. Unabsorbed phosphorus in the birds' manure is helpful to agriculture, but a significant source of water pollution. USU researchers have altered chickens' diets to include Vitamin C, a non-essential nutrient that promotes intestinal absorption of phosphorus. The diet change could improve water quality around large poultry operations.
