Easy-To-Grow
With another low-water year in Utah, perennials that can survive harsh conditions are a top-choice for gardeners, said USU Extension Horticulturalist Jerry Goodspeed. Some good choices for Utah gardens include Iris, Sedum, Hosta, Echinacea, Daylily, Guara, Scabiosa, Solidago and Perennial Blue Salvia. Sedum prefers hot conditions and is a succulent plant often used as a groundcover while Blue Salvia produces blossoms on tall spikes that add vertical shape to any perennial bed. These perennials shouldn’t run up the water bill and can be planted together to provide welcome color throughout the season.
