Drummers from Far East University Perform at Utah State University

Utah State University presents a Korean Drum Performance group from Far East University in a performance at the USU Performance Hall Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m.

“Last year’s performance at USU by the Korean drummers was spectacular and we’re excited to involve them in this year’s International Education Week,” said Mary Hubbard, vice provost for international education at USU.

A student group of drum performers from the Far East UniversityTheater and Acting Department is selected based on the students’ proven talent. A yearly show is held at Far East University and the drummers also travel to universities around the world.

While at USU, the Far East Drummers will also perform in the International Lounge located in the Taggart Student Center on USU’s campus at noon, Thursday, Nov. 17.

Both performances are free and open to the public.

The performance is sponsored by the Office of Global Management, the International Student Council, the Caine College of the Arts and the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State.

“Utah State University has been working with Far East University, which is located in South Korea, for the past five years,” said Hubbard. “Dr. Yun Kim, a former USU faculty member, facilitated a relationship with the FEU president, Dr. Kee-Il Lyu, to help internationalize the university.”

FEU has provided USU students the opportunity to take classes, assist in teaching English and experience Korean culture. Likewise, USU has hosted FEU students for study abroad semesters. The two universities offer some of the same degree programs along with unique programs that students from both institutions can benefit from through the student exchange agreement.

This year the Korean Drum Performance takes place during the 12th annual International Education Week Nov. 14-18 with the theme “International Education: Inspiring Students Locally to Succeed Globally.”

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of Education and State. It celebrates the benefits of understanding the world to better communicate and collaborate with others from different cultures. It is an ideal opportunity to inspire students to broaden their horizons through global learning, foreign languages and international exchange.
