Desperately Seeking T-Shirt Designers for 'Walk-a-Mile-in-Her-Shoes'

Utah State University’s Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information office is seeking aspiring designers to create a T-shirt logo for spring’s “Walk-a-Mile-in-Her-Shoes” event – and you don’t even have to know the difference between Jimmy Choos and Manolo Blahniks.

“We’re seeking a clever and witty design to adorn T-shirts and event posters for our popular spring fundraiser,” says Rachel Brighton, SAAVI coordinator.

 

Winner of the contest receives a $50 gift certificate to the store or restaurant of his or her choice. Requirements include incorporating the event name, “Walk-a-Mile-in-Her-Shoes” into a one-color design.

 

Deadline for T-shirt logo submissions is Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. Entries can be submitted in PDF format as email attachments to saaviinfo@cc.usu.edu or dropped off at the SAAVI office in the USU Student Health and Wellness Center, 850 E. 1200 North. The Student Health and Wellness Center is located just north of Romney Stadium and is a stop on the Aggie Shuttle Campus Express route.

 

The contest winner will be announced during the “Cupid Takes Aim” game show on Thursday, Feb. 15, from 1-3 p.m. in the Taggart Student Center Stevenson Ballroom. The game show is part of the Student Wellness Center’s “Healthy Relationships and Sexual Responsibility Week” activities.

 

During the Walk-a-Mile-in-Her-Shoes fundraiser, male Aggie students, faculty and staff don high heels and walk a mile-long course for donor pledges. Held during April, National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the wacky spectacle raises awareness of campus sexual assault and rape prevention efforts and raises money for Utah State’s “One-in-Four” chapter.

 

One-in-Four is a nationwide network of all-male peer education groups on college campuses aimed at reducing sexual assault and violence. The organization takes its name from a U.S. Department of Justice study that estimates one in four college women have experienced rape or attempted rape since age 14.

 

Utah State was the first university in the Intermountain West to establish a One-in-Four chapter and is home to the only Utah chapter.
