Designer Jill Pable to Speak at Utah State University
Noted designer, educator and researcher Jill Pable speaks at Utah State University Monday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m., Caine Performance Hall. Her lecture is free and open to all.
Jill Pable, professor in the Interior Architecture and Design Department at Florida State University and a fellow and past national president of the Interior Design Educators Council, will speak in USU’s Caine Performance Hall at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Her talk is entitled “Designing for Trauma Relief: Crafting Effective Spaces for the Disadvantaged.”
Pable holds bachelor’s and master of fine art degrees in interior design and a doctorate in instructional technology with a specialization in architecture. She is the author and co-author respectively of Sketching Interiors at the Speed of Thought and Interior Design: Strategies for Teaching and Learning and was included in the list of 30 Most Admired Design Educators in the United States in the 2015 annual DesignIntelligence rankings.
Pable’s research focuses on the design of environments for the disadvantaged. She is the originator of the Design Resources for Homelessness initiative, a research-informed online information source for architectural designers and organizations creating environments for people’s recovery from the trauma of homelessness.
She will speak about emerging research from psychology and related areas concerning scarcity and impoverishment and its behavioral ramifications and in turn how knowledge of these conditions can help guide architectural decision making. Pable will also share a case study of a 230-bed homeless shelter that she recently provided pro bono designer services.
The Caine College of the Arts Visiting Artists and Scholars Series is underwritten by the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation-Russell Family, The Tanner Charitable Trust and Differential Tuition provided by the students of the college.
