Deep Snow Threatens Calves
Deep snow cover raises the risk of calf scours, a potentially fatal infection that causes large financial losses for ranchers. Utah State University veterinarian Doug Hammon says cattle tend to be confined in smaller areas during winter, which leads to buildup of disease organisms. He recommends segregating young calves to protect them from infection.
