Deciphering Floral Messages
The Persian custom of expressing feelings with flowers came to Europe in the 1700s, says Loralie Cox, Utah State University Extension horticulturist. Roses are the most popular floral greeting, with the red rose expressing romantic love. Lavender roses signify love at first sight, while yellow means friendship. Light pink roses offer sympathy, dark pink expresses gratitude and white symbolizes innocence.
