Deadbeat Dams: Former Reclamation Head Speaks Monday, March 30 at USU
Former U.S. Bureau of Reclamation commissioner Dan Beard speaks Monday, March 30, at USU. His 4 p.m. talk in Room 046 of the Eccles Science Learning Center is free and open to all.
In his provocative new book Deadbeat Dams, Dan Beard recommends tearing down Glen Canyon Dam. And that’s just a start.
The former U.S. Bureau of Reclamation commissioner also recommends abolishing the very government agency where he spent a significant portion of his career.
Beard, who’s currently on a nationwide tour, speaks Monday, March 30, at Utah State University during Natural Resources Week. He presents “New Perspectives on Western Water Policy” at 4 p.m. in Room 046 of the Eccles Science Learning Center. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
“Logic and common sense seldom play a role in resolving water problems,” Beard says. “A lot of federal facilities are deadbeats. There are dams that are costing us money and destroying our river systems. When a dam no longer performs a function that is needed, we should remove it.”
USU Campus Store will offer copies of Beard’s book for purchase following the talk.
