Cougar-Human Conflict Writer to Speak at Utah State

Utah State University’s College of Natural Resources welcomes renowned cougar-human conflict writer David Baron, author of The Beast in the Garden: A Modern Parable of Man and Nature to campus for a lecture Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. in room 103 of the Engineering building. The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

A former science and environmental writer for National Public Radio, Baron has written extensively about complex issues surrounding preservation of wilderness areas and encroaching human development. His book, The Beast in the Garden, published in Nov. 2003, chronicles sightings of mountain lions in Boulder, Colo., neighborhoods in the late 1980s and the subsequent killing of an 18-year-old jogger by a cougar in 1991.
