Construction Update: New USU buildings will serve growing campuses
Huntsman Hall will meet a fast-growing demand for new classrooms and labs for USU's Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.
Utah State University has a number of building projects in the works, largely thanks to private donations. The buildings will meet the needs of future students for years to come, but construction work could mean inconveniences in the short-term. The following building projects are underway:
- Huntsman Hall (Jon M. Huntsman School of Business): Student enrollment in the business school has more than doubled since the Eccles Building was built. The new Huntsman Hall will meet a fast-growing demand for new classrooms and labs, and is scheduled to host classes for spring semester of 2016. Private donors are funding the majority of the cost for Huntsman Hall, with $14 million coming from the state. Learn more.
- Aggie Recreation Center: This new building on the corner of Aggie Bull-evard and 800 East will bring student indoor-recreation facilities and the outdoor recreation program into the same building. It is expected to be completed in October 2015, with an open date toward the end of the year. This new building’s funding comes entirely through fees paid by students, who passed a fee increase in 2012 to pay for this facility and the Aggie Legacy Fields. Learn more.
- Caine College of the Arts: Students in the Caine College have used the same space for decades while the number of students and faculty have soared. Plans for the renovation of the Chase Fine Arts Center are currently underway, and will include a new west wing, updates to the Morgan Theatre, the Tippets Exhibit Hall and the Kent Concert Hall and a new courtyard. The college expects the Kent Concert Hall to be out of service for the 2015-16 academic year, but will be back with acoustic enhancements and a better space for performances and productions. The project will be financed through several private donations, as well as USU’s capital improvement funding.
- USU’s regional campuses will also see building updates, including a new Living Learning Center at the Blanding regional campus, a new building to provide classroom space at USU Eastern, a science and technology building at USU-Tooele and a new regional campus for USU-Brigham City.
The Aggie Recreation Center should be completed by fall 2015.
