Come Together, Utah State Homecoming 2006
Utah State University 2006 Homecoming is a falling leaf away, and this year’s theme, “Come Together,” sets a welcome tone.
Homecoming week opens Monday, Oct. 2, for Utah State students with a kick-off party at noon on the patio next to the Taggart Student Center on the USU campus. The party features music and treats. The annual tradition of painting the streets begins at 10 p.m. Students can gather at 700 N. 800 East on campus. The street paintings will be judged for school spirit and creativity by the homecoming committee.
Tuesday, Oct. 3, a comedy show is planned at the TSC International/Sunburst Lounge at 7 p.m. The event is free to USU students with valid ID.
Wednesday, Oct. 4, the USU Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and USU Women’s Center will hold a fundraiser on the TSC Patio from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. 94.5 VFX Radio will be on hand and prizes will be handed out. Nachos and drinks are available for $1 with all proceeds benefiting scholarships for reentry students. At 7:30 p.m., USU’s most eligible bachelors will vie for the coveted title of Mr. USU in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center on campus. The hunks will compete in a grueling competition that includes such categories as best-dressed, most talented and the ever-popular swimsuit showdown. The event is $1 for Utah State students with ID and $3 without ID. Come early as seating is limited at this popular event.
Thursday, Oct. 5, free famous Aggie Ice Cream will be handed out on the TSC patio at noon. The Coach’s Show featuring USU football coach Brent Guy will be broadcast from the USU LDS Institute on campus at 6 p.m. All students are invited and food is available for $2. Members of USU’s spirit club Hurd are admitted free. A free movie for all students, “The DaVinci Code,” will be shown at the Eccles Science Learning Center, room 105, at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The movie is sponsored by the ASUSU Student Activities Board. Also that day, USU’s class of 1956 will gather on campus for the Golden Aggie Reunion that involves tours of campus and a reunion dinner.
Wear Aggie Blue on Friday, Oct. 6, for “Be Blue” Day. A pep rally is at noon on the TSC patio. A Homecoming Golf Tournament at Birch Creek Golf Course begins at noon, with an 11:30 a.m. sign-in. To register, stop by the USU Alumni Center or call (435) 797-2055. The Birch Creek Golf Course is located at 550 E. 100 North, Smithfield.
A homecoming banquet for special guests will be held at 7 p.m. in the David B. Haight Alumni Center on the USU campus to honor the 2006 Alumnus of the Year, Gerald R. Sherratt, and the 2006 Homecoming Parade Grand Marshall, Jed H. Pitcher.
No homecoming week would be complete without a Friday night Homecoming dance or a chance to become a True Aggie under the blue A atop Old Main. The dance begins at 8 p.m. in the TSC. Tickets are $15 per couple, in advance, at the USU TSC Card Office, room 212, or $20 at the door. At midnight, students may gather with a partner on USU’s Quad to become a True Aggie.
More fun begins Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m. with the annual Homecoming parade on Logan=s Main Street. The parade begins at 100 South and ends at 800 North. USU student viewing stands are planned on the east side of Main Street, between Center Street and 100 North.
A tailgate party for the USU Homecoming game is at 3:30 p.m. in the Romney Stadium parking lot and is free to USU students. Food is available for $2 and free for Hurd members.
Last, but not least, people can show their Aggie pride by attending the annual Homecoming game against Fresno State. The game begins at 6:05 p.m. in USU’s Romney Stadium. Tickets for the game may be purchased in advance through the USU Ticket Office, 435-797-0305 or 1-888-878-2831, www.utahstateaggies.com.
Fireworks will light the night sky immediately following the game and an after party begins at 9 p.m. in the TSC. The party is free to all USU students with ID and $5 without.
