College of Business Convocation Nov. 29 Features Extra Space Executive

In graduate school, Ken Woolley took a part-time job working for a self-storage company. Today he is the chairman and chief executive officer of Extra Space Storage, the second largest self-storage company in the country.

Woolley is scheduled to speak at the Dean’s Convocation for the College of Business at 12:30 p.m., Nov. 29, in the Orson A. Christensen Auditorium (room 215), of the George S. Eccles Business Building. The convocation is free and open to the public.

 

Woolley’s company, which purchased all of Storage USA’s properties in 2005 for $2.3 billion, now owns or manages more than 630 properties and more than 425,000 units in 34 states, including Washington D.C. The company serves more than 340,000 tenants and rents 46 million square feet.

 

Woolley directs all the strategic planning and oversees the development and acquisition activities for Extra Space Storage. He has been directly responsible for developing more than 100 properties and acquiring more than 176 self storage properties, according to the company’s Web site.

 

Woolley was also associate professor and an adjunct associate professor of business administration at Brigham Young University, where he taught undergraduate and MBA classes in corporate strategy and real estate.
