College of Ag Week Underway
College of Agriculture Week continues through Saturday, Sept. 29. The schedule of events follows.
Tuesday
- State of the College and Food Security Panel, 2 p.m.,Ag Sci 202. Dean Noelle Cockett will update students on the state of the college. Following will be a panel discussion on the current issue of food security. Panelists include Dr. L. Earl Rogers, Utah state veterinarian; Randy Parker, CEO of Utah Farm Bureau Federation; Brian Nummer, USU food safety specialist; and DeeVon Bailey, USU Extension Specialist and Economics department head.
- Real Aggie Night, 6 p.m., Ag Science Building. Come find out what a “real” aggie is. Hint: eat a Rocky Mountain Oyster and you’re in.
Wednesday
- Day on the Quad, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. It’s the college’s Country Carnival. Ride the mechanical bull and enter a jackpot to win money. The college ambassadors will grill beef shish kabobs, and the college clubs will have sponsor fun activities such as a greased-pig chase. The new Ag Week T-shirts will be on sale for $5, and “Always Remember” wristbands will be on sale for $1. This year’s theme is “AggieCULTURE, we don’t know how to quit.”
- Drive for Five Scholarship Tournament, 5:30 p.m., Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield. Watch faculty and students compete in a driving tournament to raise funds for College of Ag scholarships.
- Country Swing Night, 9 p.m.-midnight, Cache Valley Fun Park. Kick your heels up and dance. If you don’t dance, then ride the mechanical bull. Ag Week T-shirts will be for sale, and door prizes will be awarded.
Thursday
- STAB Pie Eating Contest, 11 a.m., Taggart Student Center International Lounge. Belly up to a whole blueberry pie. If you are the first to finish, you’ll win a big prize, maybe an Ipod.
- Awards and Honors Reception, 5:15 p.m., TSC International Lounge. Dessert will be provided for students and scholarship donors to mingle and talk prior to the banquet.
- College of Ag Awards and Honors Banquet, 6 p.m. Dinner will be served while students and donors are recognized.
Friday
- Chuckwagon Breakfast, 8-10 a.m., TSC Patio. Buy a hearty pancake, ham and fruit breakfast for $2.50. Proceeds help the College of Agriculture.
- USU Stampede Rodeo, 7 p.m. (also Saturday at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.), Cache County Fairgrounds in Logan. Watch the Collegiate Rodeo Team compete on its own turf. Tickets can be pre-purchased from any rodeo club member.
