Clothesline Project Opens at Utah State University
Utah State University’s Women’s Center coordinates activities for the Clothesline Project, and examples can be seen Oct. 1-3 in the Taggart Student Center International Lounge.
The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with messages and illustrations designed by women survivors of violence. The clothesline may also contain shirts made to honor women who have died as a result of violence.
The project organizers said the display bears witness to the violence against women and children and gives them an opportunity to break the silence about the violence. The messages and illustrations on the shirts give voice to personal experience.
USU’s Women’s Center has displayed shirts for more than 10 years. Shirt designing can be arranged by contacting the Women’s Center at (435) 797-1728. Confidentiality will be respected.
The shirts are hung shoulder to shoulder on a clotheslines for public viewing.
Hours for the Clothesline Project are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 1-2, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3.
