Climb College Mountain" with Stephen Koch at USU on Sept 25

All are invited to hear Stephen Koch speak on Sept 25 at 3 p.m. in USU's TSC Auditorium.

Utah State University STARS! GEAR UP is bringing motivational speaker and pioneering snowboard mountaineer, Stephen Koch, to USU. Koch’s talk, “Climb College Mountain” will take place Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m., in the USU’s TSC Auditorium, Rm. 227. All are welcome to attend and admission is free.

As a mountaineer, Koch’s ascents and descents include some of the world’s most notable firsts. He is the first person to snowboard all major Teton Peaks and the first and only person to snowboard on all Seven Summits. As a veteran snowboard mountaineer, he will share lessons learned from his adventures on Mount Everest.

Koch’s visit is part of National GEAR UP Week 2018, Sept. 23-29, celebrating the continuing success of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP).

The program provides students and their families the support and resources they need to prepare for college success. Locally, USU STARS! GEAR UP supports 7,400 middle and high school students statewide, and an additional 1,900 students pursuing post-secondary education.

After the talk, everyone is invited to stay and meet the speaker around the corner in the Center Colony, Rm. 221. Co-hosted by USU’s Student Orientation and Transition Services, the event is also an Aggie Passport experience aimed at encouraging freshmen and first semester USU students to travel to different campus events.

USU STARS! GEAR UP is part of the School of Teacher Education and Leadership in the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at USU.
