Clean Coal Energy Scholarship Fund Grows at USU College of Engineering
For the ninth consecutive year, Intermountain Power Agency is adding to its scholarship endowment for undergraduate students at Utah State University’s College of Engineering.
College of Engineering Dean Christine Hailey and Director of Development Val Potter met with representatives from IPA July 21 to accept this year’s contribution of $55,000. IPA Board Chairman Ted L. Olson presented the contribution during Monday’s quarterly board meeting with IPA representatives from across Utah.
“We’re very proud to be able to do this,” he said.
Each year, approximately six College of Engineering students receive scholarship funding from the Intermountain Power Agency Scholarship Fund. In selecting recipients, preference is given to students who express interest in the study of clean coal technologies. Potter told the IPA board of directors that engineering graduates from USU can go on to work in the energy sector.
“These are the people who will go out and work for you and in other responsibilities around the country to help change the world,” said Potter. “And as this fund continues to grow it will help more and more students.”
The Intermountain Power Agency is a political subdivision of the state of Utah, organized in June 1977 pursuant to the Utah Interlocal Co-Operation Act. IPA includes 23 Utah member municipalities that own electric utilities, and is governed by a seven-member board of directors elected by the member municipalities. The purposes of IPA are to finance and operate a facility to generate electricity known as the Intermountain Power Project near Delta, Utah.
