Chari Hawkins Named Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year
Women's track and field athlete Chari Hawkins is the Mountain Region Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. She is one of nine female field athletes from across the country to be honored.
Utah State University’s women’s track and field athlete Chari Hawkins was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Mountain Region Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
She is one of nine female field athletes from across the country to be honored.
Hawkins, a senior from Rexburg, Idaho, has now won Mountain Region Athlete of the Year honors for the second time in her career. She first received Mountain Region honors as a sophomore in 2013 during the outdoor season.
Hawkins was named the Women’s Outstanding Performer at the 2015 Mountain West Championships where she broke her own school and conference meet record to win the pentathlon with 4,194 points, which ranks eighth nationally. Hawkins also broke her own school record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.30, good enough to finish third, and placed third in the high jump with a mark of 5-08.75 (1.75m), earning first-team all-Mountain West honors.
In last season’s NCAA Indoor Championships, Hawkins was named second-team All-American after placing 14th in the pentathlon with 4,025 points.
The 2015 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are held in Fayetteville, Ark., March 13-14.
