Celebrated Theater Troupe Comes to USU

Utah State University’s Caine School of the Arts and the Department of Theatre Arts host Plan-B Theatre Company and a free reading of the play “Exposed.” Only one performance is offered Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, Room 224, in the Chase Fine Arts Center at USU (approximately 1110 E. 610 North, Logan). Admission is free.

According to its Web site, Plan-B Theatre Company develops and produces unique and socially conscious theater. The company operates under a Small Professional Theatre agreement with Actors' Equity Association and is a member of Theatre Communications Group, the national organization for the American Theatre.

 

Plan-B is taking Exposed on tour, beginning in Ogden and ending in Moab. Logan is the second of five performances. The performance is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with first-come, first-serve seating until venue capacity is reached.

 

“Exposed explores the human consequence of our nuclear history,” said Jerry Rapier, producing director of Plan-B. “The entire state of Utah was downwind of most of the 928 nuclear bombs the U.S. government exploded in the Nevada desert between 1951 and 1992.”

 

Exposed has won numerous awards, including “Best Drama 2007” by the Deseret Morning News and “Best Original Play 2008” by Salt Lake City Weekly and has been nominated for the American Theatre Critics Association/Steinberg Award for “Best New American Play Produced Outside New York 2007.”

 

“When we started this journey with Exposed nearly two years ago, we had no idea the far-reaching impact the play would have,” Rapier said. “Journalists from Chicago and London flew in to review the production. Most Utahns believe that the effects of nuclear testing were isolated to southern Utah, but fallout has been recorded in every county in every state in the continental United States. It’s troublesome as a piece of American history — it is inescapable as a piece of Utah history.”
