Cache Children's Choir Announces New Director
Claudia Bigler has been named the new director of the Cache Children's Choir.
Claudia Bigler, former director of choral music at Box Elder High School, has been named the new director of the Cache Children’s Choir.
The Cache Children’s Choir (CCC) is a nonprofit organization that strives to prepare children for a lifetime of singing by providing quality music training, develop the talent and self-esteem of children through guided musical experiences, share music and information with the public to develop an educated audience, foster the creation of new works for children’s voices and support music education in public schools, according to its mission statement.
“The choir works with our music education program in the Caine College of the Arts (CCA), providing them with important pre-service experience,” Nicholas Morrison, president of the board of directors for the choir and senior associate dean in the CCA, said. “They rehearse at USU and share a library that they have helped the choral program build over the last 29 years and often co-sponsor visiting artists with the college.”
Cory Evans, another choir board member and director of choral activities in the CCA has known Bigler since he was in college himself and had the opportunity to do student teaching at Box Elder High School under her supervision.
“She ran one of the finest choral programs in the state with innovative programming and consistent world-class singing,” Evans said. “I knew she was retiring this year, and we never dreamed she would be interested in taking over the Cache Children’s Choir position. As we spoke with her, it became evident that having her on board would be a fantastic boost to the program.”
Bigler’s teaching background and experience ensures she will be an asset to the Cache Children’s Choir. Along with directing choral music at Box Elder, she taught in the Carbon School District, directed The Music Company, a 100 voice children’s choir and taught middle school, junior high school and high school and has served as a music consultant/teacher for the Northern Utah Home School Association working with elementary students. She has also served as choral vice president of the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA) and is a past state president of Utah ACDA. She currently serves as a member of the State Choral Committee and as the UMEA/UHSAA state adjudication chair. Bigler is also a published composer with several pieces in print.
“She is a dynamic director with the ability to make her young singers love working hard,” Evans said. “She is engaging and firm but her gentle nature allows her singers to want to consistently sing with great energy, musicality and maturity.”
Evans calls Bigler’s connections with this community and the community in Brigham City and throughout the state invaluable for recruiting new choir members and setting up performance opportunities.
“Claudia will be able to spread the word about this fantastic organization far and wide,” Evans said. “We are so fortunate to have her direct the Cache Children’s Choir.”
Meet the director/registration nights for the Cache Children’s Choir will be held Aug. 2 from 5-7 p.m. and Aug. 3 and 4 from 5-8 p.m. in FAV 150 of the Chase Fine Arts Center on the USU campus. Prospective singers are welcome to audition, but an audition is not required for acceptance. Singers are welcome to perform any song they know well. Cache Children’s Choir has groups for every age from preschool through 16. More information can be found online at its website.
