CAAS Hosts Potter-Themed 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off

The Utah State University College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences will host its 10th Annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Feb. 4 at The Junction on the USU campus, this year with a Harry Potter theme.

The event begins at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Entry costs $3 for students and $5 for everyone else. Admission includes unlimited chili, swing dancing and live entertainment provided by local band Sagawich Basin Boys.

There will also be a costume contest and everyone is encouraged to dress as a favorite character from Harry Potter or in support of their Hogwarts house.

All proceeds from the event will be given to Caleb Gwilliam, a student in USU’s School of Veterinary Medicine whose young son is undergoing cancer treatment.

Lisa Allen, College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences academic advisor, said the event is a great way to involve students and the community.

“This is a fun event that brings together the Cache Valley community, students and our campus all for a good cause,” Allen said. “Some of the faculty in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences become pretty competitive when it comes to who has the best chili and who will win the ‘Golden Crockpot’ travelling trophy.”

Anyone is welcome to enter chili in the cook-off for a chance to win prizes. The entry fee is $5 and should be paid to Lisa Allen in AGRS 416 by January 30th. For more information, or to enter your chili, go to caas.usu.edu/chili, 435-797-2282.

CAAS departments will compete for the coveted “Golden Crockpot” traveling trophy.

The Junction on the USU campus is at 1020 East 750 North, just east of Edith Bowen Laboratory School. Parking will be available just south of the Junction in the Orange Lot.
