Busy Music Calendar Greets Listeners
November is turning into a busy month for music enthusiasts in Cache Valley with a variety of offerings from band and orchestra music to guitar to piano. Here is a wrap-up for events in the coming week.
First up is an offering by the Utah State University Aggie Marching Band — the end-of-the-season concert Sounds of the Stadium. The concert is Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center. Concert time is 7:30 p.m. and includes musical highlights of the band’s 2006 season, as well as school songs and favorites.
Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $5 and USU students and school music students are admitted at no cost.

Another concert Saturday, Nov. 18, features the musical guest Baruch Meir in a solo piano recital. He performs at 7:30 p.m. in the Manon Caine Russell Kathryn Caine Wanlass Performance Hall. General admission tickets are $5 and are available at the door beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The recital is presented by the Northern Chapter of the Utah Music Teachers Association and USU’s Department of Music. Meir’s program includes works by Mozart, Ravel and Chopin.

The Cache Chamber Orchestra performs Sunday, Nov. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kent Concert Hall of the Chase Fine Arts Center. The concert is free and open to all.
A highlight of the concert is a performance by guest organist Clayton Roberts, who is featured in the final movement from Joseph Rheinberger’s Organ Concerto No. 1. Roberts is a USU senior majoring in organ performance.

The final concert before the Thanksgiving break features students in the Electric and Acoustic Guitar ensembles. Under the direction of Mike Christiansen, head of the guitar program in USU’s Music Department, the ensembles will be in concert Monday, Nov. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Manon Caine Russell Kathryn Caine Wanlass Performance Hall. Admission is $5 at the door, and all USU students are admitted free with ID.
The Acoustic Ensemble will play music written for four to 10 guitars. The Electric Ensemble will play music written for six electric guitars, bass and drums.
