Broadway Actor Comes to USU December 11
The Utah State University Department of Theatre Arts presents “The Road to Broadway,” featuring Aaron Galligan-Stierle, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Caine Performance Hall on the USU campus.
Galligan-Stierle is both an actor and director who has performed throughout the United States. His Broadway credit includes Monsieur Andre in “The Phantom of the Opera,” Henry Ford in “Ragtime” and Cindy Lou Who’s father Papa Who in “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” In addition, he has performed six seasons at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and four seasons at the Shenandoah Summer Music Theater.
“The concert will include Galligan-Stierle’s personal story of how he ‘made it’ on Broadway,” said Jason Spelbring, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre Arts in the Caine College of the Arts. “This behind the curtain concert and interview will include a question and answer session to allow those attending to ask any questions about the life of a working actor.”
By having a guest like Galligan-Stierle, not only do students become better prepared to enter the professional world, but the general public is also invited to USU’s campus to engage in a creative and entertaining evening, said Spelbring.
The concert will conclude with a small, informal reception in the Caine Performance Hall lobby. The reception will allow those who attend a chance to visit with Galligan-Stierle and ask additional questions they may have, said Spelbring.
Galligan-Stierle will also spend time working one-on-one with students from the theater and music departments on 32 bars of a musical theater song. This opportunity is intended to give students professional coaching from one of Broadway’s working actors, said Spelbring.
“There is only so much we can do as professors in the classroom,” said Spelbring. “By inviting guests like Aaron Galligan-Stierle to the Caine College of the Arts we are expanding our classrooms beyond Logan, beyond Utah and all the way to the Great White Way!”
