Bring Back the Bugs

What caused the once-plentiful salmonfly to disappear from the Logan River? It’s a mystery, says Utah State University entomologist Mark Vinson. Herbicides used in the 1960s to eradicate sagebrush or ice-melting chemicals used on the canyon highway could be to blame. Vinson is leading a project to reintroduce the insect, a favorite treat of trout, to the river.
