Bowl Me Over!
Creative students at Utah State University have been preparing for one of the most popular events of the year — the annual chili bowl sale.
Combining culinary and artistic skills, students in the Utah State Culinary Arts Club and the Ceramics Guild have put together plans for this year’s event which takes place Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the patio of the Taggart Student Center.
“This year, like years past, will be a delight for the taste buds of one and all,” said Ceramics Guild Vice President Forrest Lesch-Middelton. “You can order a bowl of wonderful chili and eat it out of a hand-made bowl from a Utah State ceramic student. The best part is you get to take the bowl home.”
The price for the custom ceramic bowl filled with chili is $8.
Each year students in the Ceramics Guild use hundreds of pounds of clay to create more than 600 handcrafted bowls. The event is the guild’s largest annual fund raising event.
“We have always been able to count on the wonderful support of Utah State students, faculty and the Cache Valley community,” Lesch-Middelton said.
The bowls are food, microwave and dishwasher safe.
“What a bargain — for the price of lunch you get chili and a bowl you can take home and use for years to come,” he said.
Proceeds of the sale support the Culinary Arts Club and the Utah State Ceramics Guild, which uses its share to fund studio equipment and public events, including visiting artists.
