Book Signing and Reading with USU Faculty Member Bonnie Glass-Coffin

Utah State University faculty member Bonnie Glass-Coffin’s latest book, Lessons in Courage — Peruvian Shamanic Wisdom for Everyday Life, was released Oct. 1, and a reading and book signing are planned on the USU campus.

Glass-Coffin will read from the new work and sign copies Thursday, Oct. 24, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the USU Campus Store in the Taggart Student Center. Everyone is invited.

Glass-Coffin, a noted professor of anthropology at USU, co-authored Lessons in Courage with don Oscar Miro-Quesada. The book is described by the publisher as “both a memoir and guide for changing our lives, bringing much-needed healing to ourselves and our planet.”

The book is based on more than 600 interviews conducted by Glass-Coffin with Miro-Quesada, a colleague and mentor, over a period of eight years. At its core, the work is based on Miro-Quesada’s life experiences following a childhood near-death experience as a result of severe asthma, an experience that “transcended and healed the disease that affected him physically and the emotional traumas that caused it,” the book’s publicity material state. It was during this experience that he first encountered the healing presence of the three “Shining Ones.”  

As he matured, he spent much of his time in the external world — completing college, graduate and post-graduate studies in the United States — but he was drawn back repeatedly to his native country, Peru, where he met and studied with two shamanic teachers. From the teachings of both, he began his lifelong journey in search of the ancient, almost forgotten, shamanic traditions of his ancestors.

Through Lessons in Courage, Glass-Coffin has helped spread Miro-Quesada’s work to a wide audience.
