Utah State University's Big Blue Scholarship Fund recently completed its annual Fund Drive, which is aimed at raising money for the educational costs of its student-athletes, and raised $1,026,198 in just four weeks to achieve its goal.

In all, six teams and 65 volunteers worked from April 14 to May 19 to seek out new members and receive renewals from existing members. Along with receiving $1,026,198 in donations and pledges, these volunteers also added 165 new donors to the Big Blue Scholarship Fund that totaled $93,367 in new money.

"This has been a very successful fund drive, and we are extremely excited about hitting our goal," said Big Blue Scholarship Fund Director Tom Hale. "This success shows how committed our volunteers are in supporting the Big Blue Scholarship Fund and helping our student-athletes at Utah State University. There is no way we could have done it without them."

This year's team that received the most donations was Getting' Green for Big Blue that consisted of team owner Matt Robbins and members Tristan Anderson, Stan Checketts, Jud Eades, Rob Flygare, Jim Hickman, Brian Hunt, LuWana Hunt, John Neil, Chad Norton, Randy Robins, Andi Saxton, Mark Thurston, Leslie Woods and Brett Wursten.

The 2011 Big Blue Scholarship Fund All-Star team consisted of Chad Alder, Bruce Hodges, Brian Hunt, Lonnie McCulloch, Stacy Rice, Ed Rigby, Matt Robbins, Randy Robins and Bret Wursten. The Rookie of the Year Award went to Todd Gordon, and the 2011 Fund Drive MVP was Ed Rigby. Other volunteers recognized for their outstanding efforts include Tyler Alleman, Kim Arnell, Jason Douglas and LuWana Hunt.

The fund drive was opened with a kick-off dinner and program at the Coppermill Restaurant, followed by four reporting sessions throughout the six-week period. The Big Blue Bash was held in the Jim and Carol Laub Athletics-Academics Complex, which is the celebration and awards ceremony for the fund drive.
