Bees Under Siege

A bloodsucking parasite, which has developed resistance to pesticides, is decimating American beehives, says USU entomologist Rosalind James. Known as the Varroa mite, the insect could spell disaster for next year's fruit and nut crops, which depend on honeybee pollination. James' research team is testing a type of fungus that kills the mites but leaves bees unharmed.
