Baby Bears to Highlight 2014 Baby Animal Days Celebration in Cache Valley

The American West Heritage Center hosts its 19th annual Baby Animal Days event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 3, 4 and 5.

The event, which heralds the coming of spring and its accompanying newborns, will feature baby bears from Yellowstone Bear World, as well as baby lambs, goats, ducks, chicks, piglets, calves, foals, rabbits, turtles and more.

Sheep shearing demonstrations are offered as are pony and train rides, trout fishing, mechanical bull rides and the opportunity to learn about search and rescue dogs.

According to its organizers, Baby Animal Days is the largest event of its kind in Utah. More than 20,000 people attended the event in 2013.

“Baby Animal Days is a wonderful family event for people of all ages, it is a true Cache Valley tradition,” said Mic Bowen, the center’s associate director. “There will be something there for everyone. We have the baby bears coming back, which we are really excited about. We’ll have live music, food vendors, fun activities for kids, and other baby animals for people to see and experience.”

Admission is $9 for adults and $7 for military members, seniors and children ages 3-11. Students can earn $1 off with any current student ID, and all visitors can earn $1 off with the donation of any non-perishable food item at the American West Heritage Center ticket booth. For those looking to avoid the potential long lines at the event, tickets are being sold in advance at the South Walmart in Logan, the Utah State University Card Office and online at the center’s website (awhc.org).

The American West Heritage Center is a living history site where people can participate in activities designed to show what life was like in the Intermountain West from 1820-1920. Activities range from pioneer treks to mountain man encampments, panning for gold to baby animal snuggling. There are activities for all age groups. Most include hands-on, full-sensory experiences. Utah State University, among others, is a sponsor of the center.

The Heritage Center sits at the foot of the Wellsville Utah Mountains on U.S Hwy 89/91 in Utah's Cache Valley.
