Avoiding Dating Violence
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and provides a good time to look at dating relationships, says USU Extension and Family Therapist Lou Mueller. When a relationship involves power and control, other abusive behaviors such as physical violence and sexual abuse are likely to follow. Mueller says to avoid becoming a victim of dating violence, spend time in groups, plan structured activities, expect to be respected, tell someone where you are and who you are with, avoid anyone who gets angry or jealous and to trust your instincts. School counselors and faith leaders can be important allies in dating violence.
