Author Jose Aranda to Speak at USU and Utah Theater

Author Jose Aranda will speak at the Utah Theater in downtown Logan Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. and on the Utah State University campus Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 12:30 p.m. at the Haight Alumni Center.

In conjunction with Aranda’s presentation, the Utah Theater will show the film Giant Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. The film will be shown in English with Spanish subtitles.

 

Aranda is a professor of English literature at Rice University specializing in Mexican-American literature. He is the author of When We Arrive: A New Literary History of Mexican America. He has also written several articles on early U.S. criticism and 19th-century Mexican American literature.

 

Aranda’s speeches will address racism, Mexican Americans and the desegregation of Texas.

 

Giant is an Academy Award-winning film about the submerged contributions of Mexican Americans to Texas history.

 

The events are open to the public.
