Another 'Evening in Brazil'

The band is back for 'An Evening in Brazil' and a concert Friday, Feb. 27.

The “Evening in Brazil” band is back at Utah State University’s Caine Performance Hall in a one-night only concert Friday, Feb. 27, 7:30 p.m.

This is the group’s seventh annual show, providing some Brazilian jazz entertainment to spice up the winter season. The ensemble will explore Brazilian rhythms and perform music by Brazilian composers from the Bossa Nova movement, including Antonio Carlos Jobim, Marcos Valle and Roberto Menescal, but with additional songs from several contemporary Brazilian composers.

General admission tickets are $17 and student and youth tickets are $10. Tickets are available at the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room L101 of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU’s Logan campus, by calling 435-797-8022 or online. Tickets are also available at the door performance evening.

Performers include Mike Christiansen on guitar, Christopher Neale on guitar and vocals, Linda Ferreira Linford on vocals, Eric Nelson on saxophone and clarinet, Lars Yorgason on bass, Travis Taylor on drums and Don Keipp on percussion.

Christiansen is professor emeritus of music and former director of guitar studies at Utah State University. Neale, previously professor of irrigation engineering at Utah State University is now director of research at the Daugherty Water for Food Institute at the University of Nebraska. He was born and raised in Brazil, has a classical guitar degree and is a founding member of the group. Joining Neale on vocals for the concert is Linda Ferreira Linford, a native of New Jersey and of Brazilian origin and a graduate of USU’s vocal performance program in the music department. Nelson is a middle school band teacher in Cache Valley and performs around the country with Christiansen as part of the Lightwood Duo. Yorgason is a professional bass player in Utah and has performed with a number of noted artists. Taylor is a part-time drummer, working at a local environmental consulting company.  Keipp is professor emeritus of percussion at Weber State University.

The seventh annual performance of “Evening in Brazil” is sponsored by USU’s Department of Music and the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University.
