And the Walls Came Tumblin' Down

Anyone who has driven Champ Drive in the last week is aware of the ongoing work at the old Merrill Library site. Protective fences are up, and the walls will soon come tumblin’ down.

The prep work is done, and demolition begins Thursday, March 23. Thomas Graham of USU’s Facilities Design and Construction office said it will take approximately a week for the structure to be completely torn down. A track hoe, rather than a wrecking ball or explosives, will be used to demolish the building.

 

Debris from the site will be salvaged or hauled off site to an appropriate landfill. This activity will take until the first of May. Fill material will be imported, including topsoil, and the site will be restored to a level surface. Irrigation will be installed and grass seed planted.
