All Invited to USU Wildflower Walk June 7 in Green Canyon
All are invited to the annual Richard J. Shaw Wildflower Walk Tuesday, June 7, at 6 p.m. in North Logan's Green Canyon.
All wildflower enthusiasts are invited to participate in the annual Richard J. Shaw Wildflower Walk Tuesday, June 7, in the hills of North Logan’s Green Canyon. The activity, which begins at 6 p.m. and is free of charge, is hosted by Utah State University’s Intermountain Herbarium and the Cache Chapter of the Utah Native Plant Society.
Intermountain Herbarium botanist Michael Piep will lead the walk and discuss flowers and plants along the trip. Participants should gather at the parking area of the Green Canyon trailhead. To access the site, follow 1900 North (also known as Green Canyon Drive) east through North Logan. Take the left fork and proceed to the parking area with portable restroom facilities.
Conducted at a leisurely pace, the walk will last about 90 minutes. Participants should bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes. (The trail is not recommended for child strollers.)
The annual walk honors the memory of Shaw, an Aggie alum who served on USU’s faculty from 1957 to 1987. He also served as the herbarium’s director from 1984-87 and authored Utah Wildflowers: A Field Guide to the Northern and Central Mountains and Valleys. Shaw, who conducted wildflower walks following his retirement from USU, enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors and knowledge of local flora with others.
