Utah State University President Stan L. Albrecht and Vice President for Extension and Agriculture Noelle Cockett were among those breaking ground on Friday, Sept. 29, for the university’s new Agricultural Complex near Nibley and Wellsville, south of the Logan campus. Senators Lyle Hillyard, Peter Knudson, Beverly Evans and Representative Gregg Buxton — who were instrumental in securing funds for the $10 million project — spoke during the ceremony.
“This new Ag Complex signifies the future of agriculture and the immense impact teaching and research will have on our students and the industry,” said Cockett.
Administrators, architects and dignitaries donned hard hats and symbolically broke ground in the active construction zone.
Architect Robert Jacoby of Jacoby Architects said the facility will have a central common area and two wings housing classrooms, laboratories and offices within its 20,000 square feet. When completed, the agricultural complex will serve more than 400 students and eight degree programs in the College of Agriculture. The main structure will also house the university’s veterinary and other animal care facilities and will be home to the international sheep genome project.
Many of the activities destined for the new complex are being relocated from their current sites in North Logan to allow further development of the Innovation Campus.
