Aggies Named to Preseason Football Teams by CollegeFootballNews.com

LOGAN, Utah - Entering its first year in the Western Athletic Conference, Utah State landed five first-team and one second team selection on the CollegeFootballNews.com preseason all-conference team that was announced on Thursday (June 30).

 

 

Kevin Robinson was named a first-team wide receiver, punt return man and kickoff return man, while Terrance Washington was tabbed in the secondary and Jarrod Jakubiak was listed as the place kicker. Cornerback Cornelius Lamb was named to the second team.

 

The site listed Robinson as the 15th best player in the conference. The sophomore from Fresno, Calif., earned a number of postseason honors after his freshman season, which included finishing second in the country in punt return average and leading the Aggies in receptions and yards.

 

Robinson averaged 22.5 yards per punt return and his 25.1 yards per kickoff return would have ranked 20th in the NCAA with one more return to qualify for the statistics. The dangerous Robinson returned two punts for scores and one kickoff return for a touchdown a year ago.

 

As a wide receiver, Robinson pulled in 44 balls for 602 yards and three touchdowns. His 4.0 catches per contest were fourth among the nation's freshmen in 2004. He became the first freshman in school history to lead the team in receiving.

 

Washington, who played in just two games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury, had 93 tackles en route to earning second-team freshman All-America honors in 2003. The Ogden, Utah product is expected to be a force in the Aggie secondary this season.

 

Jakubiak is one of two Aggie place kickers returning for 2005 along with Justin Hamblin. Last year Jakubiak drilled four of five field goal attempts and all eight of PATs.

 

Lamb, who has started 18 games in the last two years, was USU's top secondary player a year ago. He led the team in interceptions with three, and passes broken up with seven. His 54 tackles were fourth on the team last year.
