Aggie Blue Bikes Hires a New Program Coordinator

Aggie Blue Bikes (ABB), Utah State University’s bicycle lending, education and advocacy program, is soon to see a transition in administrative leadership. TJ Hall will take over as the ABB program coordinator on March 2. TJ comes to USU most recently from Lafayette, Indiana, but is originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan. TJ and his wife, Elizabeth, came to USU in June of 2015 when Elizabeth accepted a faculty position with the university.

“My wife and I love the outdoors, and Logan has been a great fit” said Hall about his time in Logan thus far.

The program coordinator of ABB is responsible for establishing the long-term vision and strategic plan for the program. He/she works to promote, network, and fundraise for the program, while ensuring it continues to meet the needs of the USU students. When asked what he is going to bring to ABB, Hall expressed excitement and enthusiasm about the work ABB does, and his ability to contribute to that work.

“I love bikes, (riding, wrenching, admiring) so I’m eager to work with the USU community to spread that love. Riding a bicycle is a wonderful thing, and I’m fortunate to have the opportunity to help bring that to people” says Hall.

TJ is bringing valuable experience in natural resources education, customer service and professional sales to his role as the ABB program coordinator position.

“I have been working with students of all ages for the past several years and am excited to work with the university community and college students specifically in this role” Hall said about his position as the program coordinator.

“In his interview, the hiring committee and I were very impressed with the passion TJ demonstrated towards cycling and the ABB job,” said the outgoing ABB program coordinator Stephanie Tomlin. “His professionalism and previous work experience, coupled with that passion for cycling, makes him an excellent fit for this position. I’m excited to see where he takes this program.” During his interview, TJ demonstrated a solid understanding of the Aggie Blue Bikes program, bike mechanics and the environmental and health benefits of cycling.”

Kate Stephens, USU’s Center for Civic Engagement and Service Learning assistant director, said TJ has excellent people skills and will be a tremendous asset to the program. Stephens was also a member of the ABB program coordinator hiring committee.

ABB works to get more people on more bikes, more often. This is achieved through bicycle lending, education and advocacy. Cycling promotes self-sufficiency, healthy and sustainable communities, better air quality in Cache Valley and a reduction of on-campus congestion and motor accidents — thus contributing to the campus vibrancy at Utah State University. By removing the barriers students identify with cycling, such as cost and uncertainty in bicycle maintenance, ABB helps them discover the potential cycling has to become a viable transportation and recreation option throughout their time at Utah State University and beyond.

Currently, ABB has more than 350 lending bicycles, five student work stations and provides volunteering and employment opportunities to the students at USU.

Tomlin will train Hall for the first month, then, beginning April 1, Hall takes over in the 75-percent time program coordinator position.
