Ag Week Sept. 25-30 at USU

The Utah State University College of Agriculture hosts Ag Week Sept. 25-30. The week is packed with events for students and the entire campus community. The week begins with a chuck wagon breakfast Monday, Sept. 25. The breakfast will be held on the patio of the Taggart Student Center from 8-10 a.m.

Commissioner Leanord Blackham of the Utah Department of Agriculture will speak in the TSC auditorium at 11 a.m. The college will host an opening social that evening at the Agriculture Science Technology Education Pavilion at 6:00 p.m.

 

Tuesday Sept. 26, marks the one year anniversary of the tragic van accident that killed eight USU College of Agriculture students and one instructor. The day will be marked with a student open forum at 12:30 p.m. in the TSC auditorium hosted by Vice President for Extension and Agriculture Noelle Cockett. A tractor procession begins at 4:30 p.m. The route begins in the lower Dee Glen Smith Spectrum parking lot, travels south on 800 East, turns east on 700 north and arrives at the TSC. A remembrance gathering follows in the TSC ballroom at 6:30 p.m.

 

“The remembrance gathering is a time for the university family to come together and honor the contributions of the exceptional men we lost a year ago,” said Cockett. “It is also a time to look forward to the promising future they would want us to embrace.”

 

Wednesday, Sept. 27, the college will celebrate Ag Day on the Quad from 11 a.m–1 p.m. The “Drive for Golf” golf tournament will be held at Birch Creek Golf Course in Smithfield beginning at 6 p.m. The golf course is located at 550 E. 100 North, Smithfield.

 

The Punt, Pass and Kick Contest kicks off at Romney Stadium at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. The College of Agriculture Awards and Honors Reception will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by a banquet at 6:30 p.m. in the TSC ballroom.

 

The Ag Complex groundbreaking activities begin Friday, Sept.29, at 1 p.m. at USU’s South Farm, 3580 S. Highway 89/91 in Wellsville. A college rodeo begins at 7 p.m. at the Cache County fairgrounds, 400 S. 500 West, Logan.

 

The final day of Ag week is Saturday, Sept.30. Rodeo events begin at the fairgrounds at 9 a.m. At 1 p.m. the Aggies take on Idaho in a football game in USU’s Romney Stadium. Events conclude at 7 p.m. with the college rodeo at the Cache County fairgrounds.
