African Accessories at the USU Museum of Anthropology

As the Saturday activity series continues at the Museum of Anthropology at Utah State University, the cultures of Africa step into the spotlight. On Saturday, Jan. 31, the museum presents a discussion and display of African accessories.

“The museum has a wonderful collection of items from throughout Africa,” said museum worker Kandice Newren. “They are from cultures I had never heard of before seeing the exhibits. It is interesting to see how tribes use their environment to produce their accessories.”

 

Guests may view and discuss items from Besotho, Dogon and Zulu tribes. Visitors will have the opportunity to create beaded jewelry, replicating examples at the museum, or create an original design. USU students and members of the public are invited to the museum any time during the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday hours.

 

The USU Museum of Anthropology is on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, Room 252. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot, south of the building. For more information on this event, call museum staff at (435) 797-7545 or visit the museum Web site.
