'Affairs of Flight' at the USU Museum of Anthropology

The Utah State University Museum of Anthropology will host “Affairs of Flight” as part of its continuing “Saturdays at the Museum” program. Activities take place Saturday, May 1.

 

USU’s Aviation Club will present an overview of the history of flight at 1 p.m., covering the earliest attempts of flight through trends in flight today.

 

“Aviation is proof that, given the will, we have the capacity to achieve the impossible,” said World War I flying ace Edward Vernon Rickenbacker.

 

The museum’s event organizers said Rickenbacker’s comment highlights the long-standing fascination people have with flight, and prefigures that most of our experiences today have, in some way, been affected by flight.

 

The museum will also present the inspirational film October Sky (PG) in the morning, starting at 10:30 a.m. Another short film on flight will be shown following the afternoon’s 1 p.m. aviation presentation.

 

USU students and members of the public are invited to the Saturday activity. Complete hours for the activities are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Funding for Saturday events is provided by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. More information about the IMLS is available online.

 

The Museum of Anthropology can be found on the USU campus in the south turret of the historic Old Main building, Room 252. The Museum of Anthropology is a part of the Anthropology Program at USU. The museum is open six days a week, with regular hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
