Administration Approves Parking Permit Fee Increases
Utah State University’s Executive Committee approved a resolution from the Parking Advisory Committee March 30 for parking permit fee increases effective July 1, 2005. At the Executive Committee’s request, the Parking and Transportation Office presented the proposal to the Faculty Senate and to the Associated Students of Utah State University Executive Council this week. Ron Godfrey, vice president for business and finance, signed the resolution April 6.
The fee increase resolution is the result of recommendations provided by the university’s Parking and Transportation Services office, in response to new construction and rising operational costs. The university’s Parking Advisory Committee, comprised of representatives from ASUSU, the Resident Hall Student Association, Faculty Senate, Classified Employees Association and Professional Employees Association, carefully studied the recommendations for several months, during which they discussed the recommendations with and received input from their respective constituencies. The proposal was read and revised in committee January 26, 2005, February 16, 2005, and March 2, 2005, incorporating suggestions submitted by committee members. The final proposed resolution was unanimously approved by the advisory committee on March 2.
Among the committee members’ chief concerns were ensuring that the fee increases were necessary and crafting a resolution that distributed fee increases fairly among all parking patrons.
